The Programme

Our Programme is built around the 12 principles of leadership communication described in the book. Every time we work with a client, we begin by focusing on the founding principle of the leadership communication: Be yourself better. This explores how a leader connects with the purpose of the organisation (its True North) by articulating their own personal purpose and values. A leader who does this effectively is more passionate and authentic with followers and builds trust.

How the remaining principles apply to an organisation depends on the findings that surface from our up-front diagnostic. In this, we survey a cross-section of leaders and then benchmark the responses against our proprietary data set in order to identify the relative strengths and weaknesses of the leadership cohort.

We then use these findings to establish the priority areas of greatest value to the organisation, focusing on three key capabilities every leader needs to succeed:

  • The Leader Persuades

Being persuasive sits at the heart of effective leadership, and the more organisations become matrixed and project-driven, the more persuasion becomes a necessity. In this strand, we look at how leaders can persuade by telling stories, giving a point of view, being audience-centric and bringing the outside in.

  • The Leader Listens

Being persuasive sits at the heart of effective leadership, and the more organisations become matrixed and project-driven, the more persuasion becomes a necessity. In this strand, we look at how leaders can persuade by telling stories, giving a point of view, being audience-centric and bringing the outside in.

  • The Leader Talks

Engaging conversations help drive involvement and change. In this strand, we look at the three conversations leaders need to be having with their teams, as well as the signals they send. We also look at how to prepare to be an advocate for the organisation.

Building your bespoke programme

The construct of the programme that is right for you and your leaders is hugely flexible. For some of our clients, we have distilled the entire programme into two day-long sessions, for others we have focused on a couple of skills over the course of a day with a team followed by individual sessions, and in another instance we have created 6 x ½ day modules.

What all of these approaches have in common are hands-on, interactive sessions where participants roll up their sleeves and have a go at putting the theory and tools into practice in the presence of an experienced coach who is able to provide detailed in-the-moment feedback. As a learning experience it is both powerful and enjoyable.
